Balwinder Gill drives a truck.

Topics:

1- Background

Details:

In Canada, only about 15%  of long-distance truck drivers are women.
In South Asian many people think it is a man's job.
Gill came to Canada in 2000, she thought she could never learn how to drive.
Gill's first job was in a factory in Woodbridge. Some days she finished at 3 a.m., there were no buses and she had to wait or call a taxi.

2- Family

Details:

Gill, 32, grew up in a quiet village in the Punjab area of India.
Gill have a cousin in Canada, she visited him.
She sends money to her parents in the Punjab every month. They know she drives a truck and are proud of her.

3- Driving

Details:

She got fed up with this and took driving lessons, driving was easier than she thought.
Gill wanted to apply for a trucker's license. Fot three months, she took lessons five days a week while working full time. She had to learn how to shift 15 gears and back up an 18-wheel truck and trailer.
Twice, she failed the driving test, the third time, she passed.
She quit her factory job the same day. A few days later, a Mississauga trucking company hired her.

Family´s Secrets

One day Peter receive an call. This call was a from far country. The person on the line spoke in a language different. For that Peter cannot understand.  Peter sought someone who speaks Spanish. He found to Ivan.

Ivan spoke by phone and he learned the other person was Mary. Who explained Peter´s the brother-in-law, Barry. He was very sick because he had an accident. He was in a coma in to hospital. Also he is married since few months ago with Mary.

Peter and his wife, Carol were very surprised. They believed that Barry was in Colombia working.
With the news they had to travel. They were very nervous and scared because they thought a new country may be dangerous place. Also they have difficult for communication because in Colombia de people talk in Spanish; Peter and Carol only know English. They felt so bad.

But after going there they changed their impression. The people were so kind, and more people talk in English. The doctors in the hospital were very qualified. The best news was Barry could awaken. They could be reunited.

Now they must talk.

eReading

e-Readers

I love to read, but now this is difficult because I cannot find in my original idiom my prefer books.

I think e-Readers is a good option to find good books on the Internet.

The price the books for e-Readers is so cheap, and I can buy more books.

The device is small and lightweight. When I have time, and I can carry and use it anywhere easily.

These days I am trying to read in English "Treasure Island". I have spent time translating the new words, but as I have a dictionary in the same device. It is easier for me.

I like the e-Readers, and I think it helps to save the trees.

Christmas in Colombia

Colombians celebrate Christmas with a tradition called novena.
The novena is prayed for nine night from 16 to 24 December. Every family meets in front of the nativity sign, and when the pray has finished, the party begins with carols singing
and traditional dishes.
The novena is celebrated in a different home each night.
On December 24 a special mass is celebrated at midnight. When the mass has finished, it is  time to give presents eat special food, and meet with relatives and friends.

To everyone at in LINC, I wish you a merry Christmas.
